Things to do in San Francisco Day 1: Exploring the City on Foot/ Bike

Morning: The Golden Gate Trail

Let's get the big ticket item out of the way first the Golden Gate Bridge is accessible for pedestrians and cyclists alike. If you are in the city then head on down to Beach Street, in front of Aquatic Cove and get yourself a bicycle from Unlimited Biking San Francisco. Start the day early to beat the crowds and enjoy the cool, fog-kissed atmosphere. The Golden Gate Trail takes you under and around the bridge, providing breathtaking views of the bay, Marin Headlands, and the bridge itself. things to do in san francisco

Lunch: Presidio Picnic

After the bridge hike/ bike, head to the nearby Presidio, a former military base turned national park. Enjoy a picnic lunch amid historic buildings and lush greenery. Don't miss the Walt Disney Family Museum, a hidden gem in the Presidio.

Afternoon: Palace of Fine Arts

This beautiful spot is one of the oldest pieces of architecture in San Francisco and well worth stopping off to have a look at. The Palace of Fine Arts was designed by the architect Bernard Maybeck for the Panama-Pacific Exposition, a world's fair held in 1915 to celebrate the completion of the Panama Canal and to showcase San Francisco's recovery from the devastating 1906 earthquake.

Afternoon/Evening: Sunset at Baker Beach

Wrap up the day by heading to Baker Beach, located near the Golden Gate Bridge. It's the perfect spot to relax and watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Take a blanket and some snacks to make it a memorable evening before jumping in a Uber home. things to do in san francisco

Things to do in San FranciscoDay 2: Crossing the Bay and Island Retreat

Morning: Ferry to Alcatraz Island

Today, is another must do item. Crossing the bay to explore Alcatraz Island. Catch an early morning ferry from Pier 33 to the notorious former prison. The self-guided audio tour provides a chilling insight into its history. Spend a few hours exploring the island, and don't forget to take in the breathtaking views of the city skyline from the prison yard. This attraction is incredibly popular so make sure you book a few weeks (yes weeks) in advance.

Lunch: Fisherman's Wharf

Return to the mainland and head to Fisherman's Wharf for lunch. This bustling waterfront area offers a variety of seafood options. Try the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl at one of the many seafood stalls.

Afternoon: Pier 39 and Musée Mécanique

For an afternoon of exploration check out pier 39 which is all things you imagine when thinking of America holiday piers, candy floss, arcades and shops that are larger than life and more colourful than a rainbow. Once done exploring this pier walk a little further up the waterfront and you will find Musée Mécanique. I lost a lot of time in this surreal place. The arcade games are of the past and truly otherworldly!

Bonus: Lombard Street

If you are at the piers then you are only a few blocks away from the Iconic Lombard Street. If the Musée Mécanique is not your jam then head up here instead.

Evening: Ferry Building

Recently renovated the ferry building serves as a bustling port that houses shops and eateries. Its a great place to grab a coffee, do some shopping and people watching. Have a bit of time here before heading up to broadway where you can find live music or comedy. things to do in san francisco
